The Michigan Walleye Tour (MWT) will kick off its 20th season on the Detroit River in April 2015. The premiere 2-day team walleye tournament circuit in the Midwest, the MWT offers anglers the chance to test their skills against the best fishermen in the state on some of Michigan’s best walleye fisheries.
Big plans are in the works for the 2015 season said current tournament director, Ernie Plant. “Our 20th season is something we are very proud of. We have some big plans in the works for 2015. Increased payouts, great locations and some adjustments to our rules will make this season one of the best for the MWT.”
A two-day format is attractive to competitive anglers, since it removes some of the “luck” involved in single day events. The Michigan Walleye Tour is the only team event in Michigan that offers a two-day tournament. “Fishing two days usually brings the best anglers to the top of the leader board”, said longtime MWT angler and National Walleye Tour winner John Gillman. “You need to have a better pattern, know what the fish are doing to win a two day event. It really increases the intensity and the level of competition. I’ve been fishing the MWT for close to 20 seasons and consider it where I learned the foundation I needed to compete at the national level. Just look at all of the guys who grew up fishing the MWT who have gone on to win national events, guys like Steve Bohn (PWT), Billy St. Peter (PWT-twice), Dave Kolb (FLW), Steve Vandemark (PWT) and others. This is the best place to compete if you want to compete against the best and increase your fishing skills!”
“Anglers need to stay tuned for what we have planned in 2015”, Plant said. “They will not be disappointed.”
